It’s great and easy to handle!
I like the balance and feel of the bow, but it doesn't seem to hold conventional rosin very well. I can't find a US store that sells Coruss rosin, and overseas shipping costs more than the rosin itself.
Hello David,
Thank you for your feedback!
Regarding the rosin: unfortunately, we are not able to reduce the price of our rosin in the US. Import taxes and related fees significantly increase the final retail price there, which is why shipping and local pricing can seem high compared to the product itself.
We do strongly recommend using our Coruss rosin, as it is specifically designed to work with our bow hair and gives the best results in terms of grip and consistency.
That said, we would be very interested to know which rosin you are currently using. Could you tell us the brand? This may help us better understand what you are experiencing.
We wish you a beautiful day!
The Coruss Team
After getting the rosin applied, the bow did well. After a couple weeks of playing it quite often, it became more comfortable and responsive. The bow is extremely responsive, comfortable and sturdy. I can definitely recommend this bow for my type of music, which is Appalachian style fiddle square dance tunes, ballads, hymns, folk and Americana songs.
Hello Robert!
Thank you so much for your great and detailled feedback!
We’re delighted to hear that your our bow suits your playing style and musical needs so well. Knowing that it accompanies you in your Appalachian folk tunes and American hymns, and will recommend it to others truly means a lot to us!
Have a beautiful day,
The Coruss Team
From an ethical point of view, this bow of course deserves 5/5 points!
I have used the Coruss bow for exactly 2 years. I play ca. 4-5h per week. About 3 months ago, the bow developed an irritating side noise that I could not remove whatever I tried. Also, it was chronically sticky and dirty in places. So, I ordered new Coruss hair. Since the new hair, the noise is gone.
Some of my experiences:
- I found the volume of my sound a bit weaker after switching to Coruss. I could barely hear myself in the orchestra. Over time, with constant use of the bow and new strings (at the moment I use Evah Pirazzi Neo which are fantastic with this bow), I felt I could absolutely keep up with the others in my orchestra again (who use horse hair bows)
- I never lost even one hair on my bow!
- It was hard finding a luthier that was open to change the Coruss hair. I got several rejections from local luthiers (who would only work with horse haur), so had to travel a bit further away.
All in all, as a passionate amateur player I am very happy with Coruss and would (for ethical reasons) never go back to horse hair. For my viola I have a green Coruss bow and just love the colour!
Thank you so much Maria for your thoughtful review!
We’re glad to hear your Coruss bow has served you well and that the new hair solved the issue. It’s great that you’ve found the right balance with your Evah Pirazzi Neo strings, the sound often opens up beautifully over time!
Coruss hair can be rehaired just like traditional horse hair, any luthier can do it! 😁
And we love your choice of the green bow, it looks amazing on stage!
