About Coruss
At Coruss, everything began with a simple but crucial observation: the quality of horsehair on the market has been steadily declining. This reliability issue poses a real challenge for musicians seeking performance and precision.
We embarked on a journey to Mongolia to identify the root cause of the problem and understand how horsehair is harvested. By speaking with horse breeders and visiting farms, we realized that climate change is affecting pastures, which in turn impacts the horses' diet and the quality of their hair.
Additionally, with the rise in global demand, some producers have lowered their selection criteria. In some cases, they chemically bleach the hair, which significantly weakens it.
To create synthetic hair capable of meeting the expectations of professional musicians, we partnered closely with the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra and a group of luthiers we have been working with for years. Their valuable feedback allowed us to refine every detail to ensure unmatched quality and an optimal playing experience.
As passionate violin makers, we understand the importance of tradition in the world of string instruments. However, we also wanted to introduce true innovation while ensuring stability and comfort for musicians.
For nearly three years, we conducted extensive research to find an alternative fiber. Thanks to feedback from musicians and luthiers, we continuously improved our product to achieve a level of excellence.
